How the story works

Put in your headphones, choose a story, and head out the door. The narration advances while you move and pauses the moment you stop — then picks back up from the same line when you set off again. You never need to look at your phone: glance at the Lock Screen if you like, but the story lives in your ears.

The narrator keeps pausing — is something wrong? That's by design. The story only plays while you're actually moving. Make sure your phone can sense your motion (in a pocket, hand, or armband is fine) and that you've allowed the motion permission when asked — Motion & Fitness on iPhone, Physical activity on Android.

It isn't hearing my voice at a fork. Speak the exact word shown on screen (“Say Approach”), and grant the microphone permission the first time you're asked. On Android, recognition runs entirely on the phone, so it works without a signal. An iPhone does the same when it has Apple's on-device English speech model; without one, it needs a connection. Prefer not to talk? Tapping the choice always works.

Does audio keep playing with the screen off? Yes. Audio continues with the phone locked and in your pocket. On iPhone a Live Activity keeps your pace and scene on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island; on Android the playback notification does the same job.

Do I choose to walk, jog, or run? No — the pace of each scene belongs to the story, chosen by the author to fit the moment. What you choose, once before a run, is the intensity: Easy, Moderate, or Hard. That one setting scales how hard every scene pushes; it isn't a gear.

What's free, and what's paid? Act I of every saga — The Odyssey (Troy to the Cyclops), The Iliad (The Quarrel), Dracula (The Castle), and Frankenstein (The Spark) — and all of The Hollow Road are free forever. Each complete saga is a single one-time purchase: The Complete Odyssey (Acts II & III, The Return, and a secret epilogue), The Complete Iliad (Acts II–III), The Complete Dracula (Acts II–IV and the Crossroads), and The Complete Frankenstein (Acts II–IV and the epilogue). The Four Sagas unlocks all four in one purchase, for less than three of them bought separately; it is offered until you own one of the four. Sagas released later are sold separately. There is no subscription.

Restoring a purchase or asking for a refund. Purchases are handled by the store you bought from — Apple on iPhone, Google on Android — and a purchase belongs to that store's account, so it does not carry across platforms. Use “Restore purchases” in the app to bring a saga back on a new device. Refunds are requested from the store: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, Google through Google Play's refund request.

The app started a download after I bought a saga. That's expected. Act I of every saga is built into the app; the rest of a saga's narration and sound (roughly 30–60 MB) is fetched once from Apple's or Google's servers when you buy it, so the app stays small for everyone who hasn't. A chapter can't begin until its audio is on your phone, and if your phone ever clears that audio to free up space, the saga's page offers the download again — your purchase is untouched.

Do you collect my data? No. The app has no account, no ads, and no analytics or advertising SDKs, and there are no servers of ours. Motion and heart rate are handled on-device, and so is speech, unless an iPhone without Apple's on-device English speech model hands it to Apple's speech service. Nothing you say ever reaches us.
